ABOUT THE STUDIO
The piano studio is located in my home in Gloucester, MA. and has been in existence since 1998. I tend to teach with traditional, classical methods but I am also quite adaptable to the needs of the students. I try to be very flexible, understanding that everyone is different, everyone has different goals, and most families have very busy lives. If finding time to practice is an issue for you, if obtaining a keyboard is an issue for you, or if the idea of a recital is keeping you at bay, please contact me to see if we can come up with an adaptable solution. Everyone should be able to learn and enjoy this skill if they want to, so feel free to contact me, tell me your goals, and let's see what we can do!
REGISTRATION AND TUITION INFORMATION
REGISTRATION FEE: The registration fee is primarily used for books, however it also may be used for additional materials and studio needs such as purchasing individual sheet music, flashcards, music theory games, learning aids, activities, piano upkeep, studio learning incentives, supplementary learning material for sight reading and ear training, and duet books to keep on hand for in-studio use. Registration fees only apply to school age students. Adults receive a separate statement for books as needed. Registration fees are due once per year at the time of registration, recurring yearly in the Fall, and are not refundable. Registration fees are as follows:
ALL STUDENTS - $60 per year - this fee is due at the time of registration each year
SIBLINGS - $35 this discounted fee only applies if the sibling is sharing most books or if books are passed down. The first child pays the full registration fee.
RECITAL FEE: $25 per student, added to the final tuition statement. This fee covers recital costs including some, or all of the following: awards, tuning of the recital piano, any facility rental fees, any other costs associated with the recital such as paper goods, drinks, etc., and compensation for my time in setting up, breaking down, and running the recital. This fee only applies to students who are participating in the recital.
TUITION FEE:
30-MINUTE LESSON: #30 per lesson paid in advance for every four lessons. $120 is due prior to each 4 week session for upcoming lessons. Tuition is a consistent fee every four lessons regardless of attendance.
MAKE-UP LESSON POLICY:
Students may receive up to four make-up lessons per year only when prior notice is given for the missed lesson. As much notice as possible is requested. No credits or make-up lessons will be given for a student who simply does not show up for a lesson, unless it is a true emergency.
No-Shows - When a student does not show up for a lesson, at least half of that time is spent waiting to see if the student will show up late. In addition, time is often spent during the day making preparations for that lesson. With prior notice, that time may be utilized in another way, including make-up time for other students. For these reasons, if a student simply does not show up for a lesson, the make-up lesson will be forfeited and a credit will not be issued.
BILLING: Tuition statements will be sent via email every 4 lessons.
Benefits of Piano Lessons:
Piano lessons have numerous benefits for both children and adults. Statistics show that children who take instrumental lessons - particularly piano - improve coordination as well as concentration. They may improve their reading skills, increase their memory, enhance their math abilities, and have higher levels of creativity. These benefits - and others - spill over into other areas of life. How does this happen? Read the following examples :
* When children concentrate and focus at the piano, they develop good study habits that transfer to other endeavors.
* Piano lessons require a student to use their eyes, ears, legs, arms, feet, and all ten fingers. This develops hand-eye coordination and body coordination, which could benefit them in athletics as well as many other endeavors.
* As students learn music, they sharpen their listening skills through ear-training.
* Fingers are strengthened when a student plays the piano, developing fine motor skills.
* When children learn to read music, they learn to look ahead, and to identify symbols, patterns, and notes by differentiating between their placement. These skills are needed in reading and math and are beneficial to many areas of life.
* While learning piano, children learn to count, sequence, categorize, add, and subtract, which are all important math skills.
* Piano lessons give children exposure to history including famous composers, characteristics of past time periods, and the arts.
* Piano lessons enhance creativity in children as they learn to compose and improvise.
* Piano lessons teach task completion as children practice and learn songs for the purpose of “finishing” them. This is an important skill in all areas of life.
* If a child is involved in piano ensembles, they learn team-work and enjoy the social aspect of music, enhancing social skills.
*Piano instruction lays an important musical foundation useful in ANY future musical endeavor!
